The Return from the Primitive Methodist preaching place in Egerton, in the Bolton District, to the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious worship (Return no: 468 7 2 6) was completed by David Hornsley, John Marsden, Ralph Marsden and James Mayoh.

The preaching place was a Schoolroom, erected in 1842 which seated 200. On Census Sunday the attendance at the 2 services was 12 and 15, with 30 scholars in the Sunday school.
