The 1851 Census of Public Places of Religious Worship contains a report for a Primitive Methodist preaching place at East Coulston. The service was held in the kitchen of a cottage and at other times in the week was used by the family.

The return was completed by John Perrett, styled as Manager, of West Coulston.

26 people attended the single service which was held in the evening.
