1830 chapel openings and more

Index of 1830 Primitive Methodist Magazine accounts of chapel openings, re-openings and foundation-stone laying

There are 18 chapel openings, re-openings and foundation stone layings listed in the 1831 volume. There is one date for a foundation stone laying and two accounts of chapels re-opening.

When they opened the chapel at Roughton they started praying the day before and kept praying all night.

The chapel at Canaan Street, Nottingham had to be extended just 5 years to the day that it was first opened.

At Bottesford in the Nottingham circuit there had been lots of opposition at first. Church bells had been rung and and drums banged close to those worshipping in the open air.

At Blaenavon the society used to meet in an engine house before they had a chapel. At Stratton it met in a wheelwright’s shop.
