1821-8 chapel openings and more

Index of 1821-8 Primitive Methodist Magazine accounts of chapel openings, re-openings and foundation-stone laying

There are 35 accounts of chapel openings in the Primitive Methodist magazine from 1821 to 1828, with two dates for foundation stone laying.  There was no re-opening of a chapel after improvements.

The number of accounts in each year were:

  • 1821 – 8
  • 1822 – 2
  • 1823 – 0
  • 1824 – 8
  • 1825 – 3
  • 1826 – 5
  • 1827 – 4 (with two dates of foundations stone laying)
  • 1828 – 5

In Pickering it was thought that 5,000 attended the opening.

In Newcastle upon Tyne they purchased a chapel from a Scotch church – ironic for Primitive Methodists.

At Selston in Derbyshire the Lord of the Manor refused a piece of land – but they found room in the garden of a member.

At King’s Moor near Haverfordwest they ran out of money so had to stop work for a while until funds were replenished.
