1835 chapel openings and more

Index of 1835 Primitive Methodist Magazine accounts of chapel openings, re-openings and foundation-stone laying

There are 30 chapel openings, re-openings and foundation stone layings listed in the 1835 volume. There were 2 re-openings of existing chapels.

At Dilwyn in the Cwm circuit the chapel was built by voluntary labour mainly at night.

At Northallerton in the Brompton circuit, the chapel was a converted theatre.

At Babbington, Chapel Street, in the Liverpool circuit, they also built two cottages so the rents could help with the society’s income.  Building a house to rent was a strategy used by a number of societies. Most chapels opened with a debt to pay off.
