Index of 1853 Primitive Methodist Magazine accounts of chapel openings, re-openings and foundation-stone laying

In the 1853 volume of the Primitive Methodist magazine there are 50 openings, re-openings and foundation stone layings reported. Of those, 29 were openings.

At Woodyates in the Salisbury circuit they recruited (pinched) the singing leader and parish clerk for the new chapel from the parish church.

At Northmoor in the Faringdon circuit, and Churchill in the Witney circuit, Primitive Methodists lost their jobs and houses because of their faith. On the other hand, Kenninghall chapel was actually formed as an indirect result of thuggery.

At Drighlington in the Bradford circuit they became involved in major legal costs because they didn’t have the deeds of their first chapel.
