There are 42 accounts of chapel openings, re-openings and foundation stone layings listed in the 1870 volume. This includes 19 openings, 18 foundation stone layings and 4 re-openings.
At Risca Cross Keys in the Newport circuit, the new chapel cost £1,600 with £400 raised. However, an explosion at the pit killed 119 including many connected with new chapel. The society needed to raise £400 for them.
At Fallow in the Faringdon circuit, they had held services for 50 years but no chapel had been built. The foundation stone for a new chapel was laid by an 80 year old lady, a member for 40 years. There’s dedication!
At Chapel End in the Walthamstow mission, the cost of the new chapel was met by J Hitchman and the deacons and friends of Marsh Street Congregational church.
