Statistical Returns; 1940

1940 Buildings record title page

This link will take you a comprehensive list of all Methodist buildings as at 1st July 1940 which includes an indication of the character of the structure, the sort of seating and the extent of the buildings.  You are able to download the relevant sections.

It will also tell you which brand of Methodism each building belonged to before Methodist Union in 1932 – whether it was Wesleyan, Primitive or United Methodist.  All those built by the Primitive Methodists are clearly marked with P.

The data comes from a report published by the Department for Chapel Affairs in 1947, following a resolution passed by The Methodist Conference in 1940.
