This is a list of chapels that had been registered by 1867, derived from ‘A list of places of meeting for public religious worship, certified to the Registrar General’. Remember that registration was not compulsory. Use the search box to find out more about a chapel.
The numbers on the list are matched by those on the map, in some cases representing more than one building. Leicestershire was missioned early, from 1817 onwards. Note the concentration of chapels in the coal mining and hosiery districts in the north of the county.
