  • Ref. BDFCBPM/2/9: Forshaw Street Primitive Methodist Chapel, Barrow:
    A glass bottle incorporated in Chapel foundation stone, 1896. Contents: programme of stone laying ceremony and public meeting 5th May 1896. Victorian pennies 1895-1896. Other items.

The Genuki site reports the chapel was originally founded in 1866, with a new chapel built in 1896, and closed in 1953. There is also a picture of the chapel.

Comments about this page

  • In 1940 the chapel had 450 sittings on pews and there was a schoolroom and three other rooms. It was sold in 1955-6 for £3972.
