The return to the 1851 Census of Paces of Public Religious Worship for Wrightington Primitive Methodist chapel was completed by school master Robert Norris, the Superintendant (sic).

He reports that the chapel was erected in 1831. It accommodated 125 and the average attendance to afternoon services was 25 worshippers and 50 children in the Sunday school.
