Ref. MLI87259: Site of former Primitive Methodist Chapel “opened” in 1840. Eastgate, Bassingham. Other information in Ref listing.

The chapel was opened in 1840 on a site at the junction of Lincoln Road and Eastgate and closed in about 1872.

The chapel was in the following circuits at the dates indicated:

Additional information (CH 01/2024)

In the 1840 Primitive Methodist magazine (page 182) John Jackson tells us that a Primitive Methodist chapel measuring 24′ x 24′ was opened in Bassingham on January 1st 1840, just some six months after the village had been missioned.

Preachers at the opening included Mrs Longmires, Rev Jackson and R Thompson.
