Wildmoor-Fen Primitive Methodist chapel
Boston Circuit
The Primitive Methodist Magazine for October 1854 contains an account by James Shaw of the opening of Wildmoor-Fen Primitive Methodist chapel in the Boston circuit.
Wildmoor-Fen was a village with a small Primitive Methodist society and a scanty population. It was missioned in 1851 by Mr Hipkin and once they had decided to build a chapel, the foundation stone was laid on April 10th 1854 by Mr Bassingdale of Haven-Bank in the Horncastle circuit with sermons from Rev Carthy of Donnington, Mr R Pinder of Coningsby, and James Shaw.. The opening services took place on June 11th and 18th, with sermons from Mr Bassingdale, James Shaw and Mrs Hurst of Belper when a “mighty influence pervaded the congregations”.
The chapel is built of brick, 25.5′ x 19′ and 12′ high. It held 106 and was the responsibility of twelve Trustees.
Can anyone locate this chapel? I have no idea where it was or whether any evidence of it still exists.
