West Ferry Primitive Methodist chapel
Scotter Circuit, Lincolnshire
The Primitive Methodist magazine for March 1851 includes an account by Enoch Lee of the re-opening of West Ferry Primitive Methodist chapel in the Scotter Circuit on the 8th September 1850.
The first small chapel in West Ferry opened in 1823 – and such was the newness of the society, it was specifically designed to be easy to convert into a cottage should the enterprise fail. It didn’t fail, and the chapel was enlarged in 1838 and then further lengthened in 1850. It was then 45′ x 28′ with a circular gallery. The cost of the enlargement was £200.
I’m not able to track down where the chapel was – or even locate West Ferry. Can anyone help?

West Ferry is opposite East Ferry on the river Trent five miles south of Epworth. It now forms part of what is formally known as the settlement of Owston Ferry, locally known as plain Ferry. In the entry for Owston Ferry PM chapel which I submitted the dates match except for the opening date which I am confident on the information put to me and the circuit was 1821.
See this page for Mary Hopkinson of the West Ferry Primitive Methodist Scotter Circuit.

While transcribing an old Primitive Methodist journal, which includes an account of Mary Hopkinson’s death experience, I noticed the difficulty locating West Ferry, so when I found information about Mary Hopkinson, I wonder if the name changed.
