Filby Primitive Methodist chapel

Main Road NR29 3AA

Filby Primitive Methodist chapel in the Great Yarmouth Station was opened in 1886 and closed in 1987. There are bungalows on the site by 2018.

The laying of the memorial stones is recorded in the Primitive Methodist magazine of November 1886. They had been meeting for some years in a small rented room.  The new chapel was expected to cost £400 and they planned to raise at least half by the opening.

The document you can download is Joan’s history of Primitive and other sorts of Methodism in the parish and the pictures in the gallery are from the Filby Collection – the work of a group of local historians.
