High Heath Primitive Methodist chapel

The January 1894 Primitive Methodist magazine tells us that a new chapel had been opened at High Heath, in the Bloxwich and Cannock station.

High Heath was a mining community and although for most of the time the building was in the course of construction, the miners were locked out, they had still raised half of the cost.

The chapel building still exists on Street View 2021, at the junction of Coronation Road, Mob Lane and Broad Way.  It still carries its Primitive Methodist date tablet.

  • I’ve done a little research and created a page for Bloxwich Primitive Methodist chapel which you can see here. The chapel was on High Street just west of the junction with Pinfold.

It would be good to add a picture of the trowel to that page: cold you please send it in an email to enquiries@engleseabrook.org.uk.

In terms of what to do with the trowel, the chapel closed in the 1960s and demoished in the 1970s. You could contact its successor which is St John’s Methodist church on High Street: its website is https://stjohnsbloxwich.co.uk/ . Alternatively, your local museum might be interested; or you could offer it to the Museum of Primitive Methodism at enquiries@engleseabrook.org.uk.

  • I have a stone laying trowel which I found in the garden of my previous house.
It states that it was presented to
Mrs S. A. Taylor on the occasion of Stone laying
    P.M. Schools Bloxwich Aug. 18th 1902
Can you shed any light on where this would be and who to return it to?
