In the Primitive Methodist magazine of 1837, W Pentney tells us about the opening of six Primitive Methodist chapels and one re-opening in the year following September 1835 in the Wangford circuit.

The opening services for Sibton Primitive Methodist  chapel started on 15th May 1836.  Mr R Howchin Mr W Wainwright & Mr W Pentney were the opening preachers.

The celebrations included preaching to about 1200 in the meadow near the chapel on Sunday afternoon.
