Milbottom Primitive Methodist chapel, near Oldham
A Primitive Methodist chapel was registered for worship before 1867 in Milbottom, in the Oldham Registration District. Can anyone identify this location and throw any light on the chapel?

Thank you for this. The book is a real find, with so much information on places of worship and sunday schools. The two ministers were those in the Oldham Circuit from 1855 to 1857. The chapel identified was still in use in 1940, when the Statistical returns state that Waterhead (Heywood Street) could accommodate 200. it appears to have closed in 1975, and details of the records deposited may be found at https://manchester.spydus.co.uk/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/ENQ/WPAC/ARCENQ?SETLVL=&RNI=7209621

Millbottom seems to be the area of Waterhead on the east side of Oldham along Huddersfield Road. There’s a Primitive Methodist Church (with seats for 300) marked on the OS Town Plan from the 1870s on the corner of Heywood Street (still there) and Broadbent Street (which has disappeared): https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=19.0&lat=53.54936&lon=-2.07740&layers=117746211&b=1

Edwin Butterworth’s Historical Sketches of 1856 lists a Primitive Methodist Chapel at Millbottom, one of four in Oldham with M Dickenson and Rev J Aspinall as ministers.
