Penley, North Wales

A small camp meeting was held at Penley in 1834. The 1840 Oswestry Circuit report says that the society at Penley was doing well. It had a Sunday School in 1842. In the period 1846-9 membership ranged from 5 to 7. At the time of the 1851 religious census they were meeting in houses not exclusively used for worship: 13 people in the morning, and 28 in the evening. The 1900 chapel, shown in the photograph, was named Ebenezer, referring to 1 Samuel 7:12, “Hitherto the Lord has helped us.”
