Wrexham Colliery Road Primitive Methodist chapel

David Young
Chapel pre 1937
Rebuilding in 1937

“Colliery Chapel” cause began in 1856, and became Primitive (from United Methodist) in 1893; it was rebuilt 1936-8 because of subsidence. It is still in use as a Methodist place of worship.

The rebuilding included the addition of an extra side window and a schoolroom.

  • I sat on the wall of the chapel many times as a child. Also on the old railway bridge at the far end towards the winding house waiting for the steam trains to pass under . The bridge has also long gone since the by pass was built. Would be nice to see some old photo’s of colliery houses and Finney street.
