The 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious Worship contains a report by the steward, George Humphries, recording an attendance of 130 people to a morning service and 180 to an evening service on Census Sunday.  There was also a Sunday School which met in both morning and afternoon with 60 scholars at each .

The chapel dated from 1842.
