The return to the 1851 census of Places of Public Religious Worship was completed by David Meadham, a farmer and I Wentworth a local preacher.

It records that the chapel was built in 1846 and seated around 150 – and on the evening of Census Sunday, there were 150 people there.  In the afternoon there were 10 vacant seats.
