The Brierley Methodist Church website contains (in January 2022) a full account of the history of both the Primitive Methodist and Wesleyan Methodist chapels that joined on formal Methodist Union in 1932.
You can read the account here.

The Primitive Methodist chapel was located in Cliff Lane and dates from 1852. The society was not a prosperous one and the website tells that the lighting in the Cliff Lane chapel was provided by members of the congregation, who used lanterns to light themselves through the streets and then placed them, still lit, in the church to give light for the service.
