Denby Dale (Miller Hill) Primitive Methodist Chapel Yorkshire (West Riding)

It seems little is known about this Chapel. It appears there were two chapels. The smaller building could have been the first as there are foundation stones in the front wall and the larger building the second as it had a chapel plaque, sadly scratched away.  In the Statistical Returns for Methodist Church Buildings in the 1940s, Denby Dale Primitive Methodist Chapel had seating for 250 persons on pews. There were two school halls and three other rooms. The Chapel probably closed for worship etc in the mid 1960s and in 2018 when the photos were taken had been converted into a domestic dwelling.

  • On the 1854 OS Map it is marked as “Hill Side Chapel (Primitive Methodist)”. It is the larger building which is marked, and therefore the oldest. The smaller building is the extension and shows names stones of the contributors to the building.
