Swainby Primitive Methodist chapel

High Street Swainby

Swainby Primitive Methodist chapel

The 1879 Primitive Methodist magazine contains a note of the opening of a new Primitive Methodist chapel at Swainby in the Brompton circuit. It replaced an earlier building. The village had been missioned some 60 years earlier when preachers included “Clowes and his co-adjutors”. (Adjutor = helper /assistant. I had to look it up too).

The Ordnance Survey map shows a Primitive Methodist chapel and a Wesleyan Methodist chapel not far from each other on High Street. It could well still exist but it is not possible to tell on Street View.
