Gilberdyke Primitive Methodist chapel

Gilberdyke new chapel was donated by the Walmsley family of Leeds who came originally from North Cave  and always supported the chapels of the North Cave circuit.  Read about it here.

The foundation stone was laid on June 8 1899 and the chapel opened just six months later on Thursday December 7th 1899. Although the Walmsleys paid for the chapel, it was on condition that the society raised the funds for a vestry, school room and boundary wall so that the chapel opened debtless..  Remarkably, the final donation of exactly the right amount was made at the opening service.

The chapel stood on the main road, almost opposite the old school. In 2019 there is modern housing on the site.
