Alderman William Allison

Birtley PM Church

Alderman William Allison , my Great- Grandfather , was a Sunday School teacher at Birtley    PM Church from 1858 and a Local Preacher from 1864 . His Golden Jubilee as a  Local Preacher was celebrated on May12th 1914 in the Co-operative Hall, Birtley at a meeting at which he was presented with an Illuminated Address marking the occasion. The meeting was reported in the  local newspaper and I have a cutting giving many names of participants at the meeting. I have recently begun research into my family background in Birtley and Chester-le-Street and would be pleased to hear from anybody who has links to those places.

  • Hello David, I am presently researching the Arblaster family clan, Clayhanger Brownhills. My Uncle Bill, William Arblaster of Ogley Crescent, Brownhills died 1972 was married in Cannock to Jane Watson, my aunt, of Birtley, Chester-le-Street Co.Durham. Her mother was Lilly Ada Allison of South Terrace, Birtley Co. Durham. Lilly married Adam Watson, my granddad. Hope it might be of interest. Arthur Newman.
