Joseph Broadhead, a Coal Miner (always known as Broadhead, but born Joseph Broadhead Hinch(c)liffe in Methley,West Yorkshire in 1853) was the son of Naomi Broadhead, a dressmaker and John Hinch(c)liffe, a Coal Miner. John was killed falling down a Pit Shaft at Whitwood Colliery in 1853, before Joseph was born.

Mary Ann Wilson, was born Methley 1854, the daughter of Thomas Wilson, a Blacksmith and Horsekeeper and Anice Freeman.

They married at Ebenezer Primitive Methodist Chapel, Bradley Street, Castleford, West Yorkshire in 1873.

  • I have only just seen this post. Joseph is my great grandfather and I have several photographs of him and the rest of the family. His daughter Maud lived with us until I was two, she was my great grandma. I have been unable to find out what happened to Joseph’s father so your post has solved the mystery.
