The Cautheringtons of Dudley, Worcestershire

My 4x great grandparents James Cautherington and his wife Ann Cunningham were Primitive Methodists in Dudley, Worcestershire, England in the 1800’s and according to the attached document written by a minister or lay sister at the time of their daughter (my 3x great grandmother) Elizabeth (Cautherington) Fletcher’s death in 1870.

The Cautheringtons were the first to open their home to the church in Dudley and held regular prayer meetings in their home for 28 years. Their son James Cautherington, a well known grocer in Dudley, was a lay preacher and was mentioned in the Primitive Methodist Magazine in 1856, 1862, and 1864. He is listed as a Deed Poll Member 1888 -1895. One of his sermons was also published in the The Primitive Pulpit by Antliff, William, 1813-1884.
