Zion Chapel on Francis Street, Elland, Yorkshire - Can anyone help with my memories?

Hello to all,
I was born in Elland, West Yorkshire in 1955, my parents lived on Langdales, Elland at the time, and attanded The Zion Methodist Church on Francis St, as I have a Christening paper with that address on it, also my sister has one also for 1953.
I think my father Harry Armstrong was the Caretaker at the Chapel, as my sister remembers him walking her to the chapel on occassions, to do some work there.
Can anyone help me out, in finding out whether or not this chapel still exists at all, or if it has changed names etc, I would love some of the history of who the pastors where, and anyone with any memories, pictures etc at all. Anything.
Thank you so much, in anticipation of anyone who could help me.

  • Elizabeth,
Information on this site for Elland PM Chapel identifies that the foundation stones were laid in September 1879 and the church was opened in June 1880.
The 1941 statistical return describes the building as stone built, seating 391 with 1 hall and 5 additional rooms.
A modern housing estate has been built on the site.
Records associated with this chapel should be lodged at West Yorkshire Archive Service, Calderdale. You may need to also look under Brighouse and Greetland Methodist Circuit at the Record Office.
