Whiting, Clara (1862-1900)
Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger
CLARA WHITING was born at South Lambeth, London: died at the same place on Feb. 2nd, being 37 years of age. When seven years old she became a scholar in our Battersea Fields school, since known as New Road, Battersea. At the age of fourteen she became a member of the church and subsequently filled the positions of teacher and school treasurer. She was a steady quiet worker, consistent in her character and liberal in her support of our institutions, and will be much missed. She was buried at Tooting Cemetery by the circuit minister, who also conducted a memorial service at New Road Chapel, when ten of her former scholars, most of whom are now members of our church, sang ‘Good night, beloved.’
