Moore, Ellen (Ella) (1898-1915)

Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger

Ella Moore, the adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tough, of Eton Wick, was one of the brightest and truest young Christians that the writer has ever been privileged to meet. Her foster-parents gave to her all the kindly care and thoughtful training that even an only daughter could have wished for, and, whilst her character and conduct were sacredly guarded by them, her home-life was as bright as a midsummer day. Through the prayers and influence of Mrs. Tough particularly, Ella was led to Christ at the age of fifteen, and sweetly surrendered her whole soul to Him. She became more and more “spiritually-minded,” and rejoiced in her Saviour’s “life and peace.” The services of the Lord’s House were clear to her. To the preacher she was always an interesting hearer—alert, appreciative, and, in her way, demonstrative. Her life was an adornment of the doctrines of the Great Teacher.

At the end of August, when, to all appearance, she stood on the threshold of a life of exceptional usefulness both in the home and in the Church, she was ruthlessly smitten, and, after an agony of suffering, fell asleep early on Sunday morning, September 12th, 1915, in her eighteenth year, her emancipated spirit entering into the presence of “the King upon His throne.” She was most beloved by those who knew her best; but, whilst they mourn her loss, she is the richer, and heaven the richer, too.

W. SHAW.
