Souter, Mary (1768-1738)

Mary Souter was born Nov. 24, 1768, and came to live at White Car Farm, near Ashover, in 1790, where she continued till death.

She attended the Methodist chapel, and was convinced of sin; and she attended for a time and had a great attachment to class meetings, till disabled by infirmities.  It would seem she united with the P. Methodists through her attachment to class meetings.  Her last illness was short.  Her leader, A. Hind, visited her; and the night before she died, asking how she was, she replied, “I stand by faith on the great atonement”  “Do you feel happy?”  “I feel very happy.”  And in answer to various questions, she said, “Bless the Lord, I am going home.  O if this be dying, it is easy work.”  And about four in the morning, with a heavenly smile, and without a sigh or groan, she fell asleep in the arms of Jesus.
