Davis, Thomas

Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger

Leintwardine Circuit has lost a very useful man and a sincere friend in the death of Thomas Davies. He was born at Bryncaled, near Bucknell, Salop. At the age of 21 he found salvation through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and was a most consistent member till death. As a class leader he was much beloved. He has been a local preacher in this station for about 18 years, and, as such, was generally accepted. He claimed no extra-ordinary talent, ability or learning, but made good use of what he had. His knowledge of the fundamental truths of salvation, his constant communion with God, and his passion for the salvation of others, formed in Him a character of excellent worth, and kept him in constant readiness for public exercises, so that the pulpit was seldom, if ever, without support if he were present. He was always ready, and, when the hour of his departure was at hand, he was not less ready. In a moment, at his work, the Master called, he dropped his tools, fell to the ground, and, within half an hour, went home to God, aged 56. He leaves a widow and family to mourn their loss of him, to whom we tender our sincere sympathy.

I have been unable to identify Thomas in census returns from the information in the obituary. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
