Transcription of Magazine ‘Sketch’

Our chancellor hails from Wrawby, a village in Lincolnshire, where he was born in 1847. He was born again of the Spirit in the same village in 1863. Forty-one years ago he came to Hull and joined our Holderness Road Church, and entered the school as a teacher. Now he is the senior Superintendent of Bethesda School. This was opened about six years ago, and has on the roll over seven hundred scholars. For fourteen years he has been a wise and faithful Class leader, and now by unanimous vote of the quarterly meeting and the goodwill and confidence of the whole circuit he holds the office of Circuit Steward. By diligence in business, uprightness in life, devotion in Christian service, and quiet but firm adherence to principle he has won the respect of all who know him. The young men of the circuit look up to him and trust him. He is worthy of the high office and he will fit it worthily.
