Coupe, Jane (1786-1838)

Jane, wife of Robert Coupe, of Scar-cliff Lane, Chesterfield circuit, hearing Bro. J. Handley, a local preacher, got her soul converted, and said, “Bless the Lord for opening a door to come to him.”  Her conversion was sudden; but she never lost her confidence.  She endeavoured to make the preachers comfortable, and every Saturday she cleaned the preaching house.

In her last illness she suffered much, but said, “The Lord had laid it on, and could if he pleased take it off.”  Her leader and one of the other members prayed with her; and, on seeing the tears trickling down their cheeks, she said, “I am going to heaven: why do you weep for me.”  The preacher and a few friends visited her.  She gave him her hand; and on being carefully laid down, she said, “Jesus died for me;” and expired Feb. 2, 1838, aged 52 years.
