Featherstone, John (1844-1915)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by G.K. Fawell

John Featherstone was born at Fox Holes, near Shotley Bridge in 1844, but when quite a child came with his parents to Stanhope. Converted at the age of sixteen, from that time he became actively interested in the work of the Church. He served as teacher, class leader and trustee, and in each capacity gave of his best, particularly in the class which he conducted for many years at Crawleyside.

His duties as clerk on the N.E.R. led him to remove to Darlington about seventeen years ago, and then to Norton, in both of which places he is remembered as a loyal and fervent Primitive Methodist. His retirement has been spent in Stanhope.

For some months his strength declined, and on May 31st he passed into the peace beyond. The funeral service was conducted by the Revs. E. Phillipson, T.C. Showell, and G.K. Fawell.
