Greener, Rachel Florence (1891-1912)

Primitive Methodist Magazine 1912

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by E.C.

Rachel F. Greener was a member of the Throckley Y.P.S.C.E. in the Lemington-on-Tyne Circuit. By her death we have lost an earnest worker in the Church. Miss Greener was of a genial and winsome disposition, a young woman of rare piety and devotion.

Her interest centred in the young life of the Church; in the Sunday School, Band of Hope, and the C.E. Society she trained the young for the Master’s service. Being a member of the I.0.G.T. Lodge, a district deputation attended the funeral. Owing to the large number attending the funeral the service was held in the Wesleyan Church. The Rev. B. Goodwin (Wesleyan), Rev. J. Chisholm (chaplain of Lodge), and Rev. E. Campbell conducted the service. She will be remembered for the good work done.

Family

Rachel was born in late 1891 at Ryton, Co. Durham, to parents John Greener, a coal miner deputy (1911), and Sarah Bateman.

The 1911 census return records Rachel assisting in a shop and Post Office run by her mother.

Rachel died in early 1912 at Throckley, Northumberland.
