Henderson, Louisa Isabella (1871-1915)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by J.B.

Miss Henderson, who passed from this life on February 5th, 1915, was a native of Garrigill, in Cumberland. Her parents removed to Spennymoor in her very early days, and she became closely associated with our Church. In her teens she took the definite step of surrender to Jesus Christ, and began to work in the Sunday school, later becoming assistant leader of the young women’s society class, which position she held to the end of her life, during a period of seventeen years.

Her gentle and gracious disposition, and the purity and elevation of her character fitted her for this work. Miss Henderson’s mental ability, business capacity, and general trustworthiness of character  obtained recognition when she received the appointment of rate collector, in succession to her deceased brother. She held this position eighteen years.

Possessing intellectual and general endowments out of all proportion to her physical strength, necessary restrictions on both her private life and her privilege and service in the Church were endured with unmurmuring patience and resignation. She has left the world an example of devotion, and the fragrance of a character of singular charm and purity.
