Jones, William (1881-1916)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine

Stafford Street Church, Walsall, has lost a very capable official in the passing of Mr. W. Jones. A stalwart Primitive Methodist, he succeeded his father, the late William Jones, as secretary of the Stafford Street Church, and in that position he won the confidence and esteem of all. 

It was hoped that there were many years of fruitful toil awaiting him, but at the early age of thirty-five he was called home. He leaves a wife and three children. He was laid to rest on February 14th, the service being conducted by Revs. J. Mainwaring and F.R. Brunskill.

Family

William was born abt1881 at Walsall, Staffordshire, to parents William, a colliery clerk (1881) and Sarah Ann.

Census returns identify the following occupations for William.

  • 1911 corn and seed merchant

He married Susannah Jones (1883-1965) in the summer of 1908 in the Wolstanton Registration District, Staffordshire. Census returns identify two children.

  • Florence Edith (b1909)
  • Marjorie Elizabeth (b1914)

William died in February 1916 at Walsall, Staffordshire.
