Middleton, William (1834-1914)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by F.E.T.

Mr. W. Middleton was born at Ulleskelf, near Tadcaster, in the year 1834, and entered into rest at Knaresborough on March 11th, 1914, in his eightieth year.

One of the pioneers of our Church at Knaresborough, he had been a member over sixty years, and served as local preacher, class leader, trustee and Sunday school superintendent. At camp meetings and open-air meetings he excelled. Bro. Middleton was an original type of character, quaint, genial and good-natured. Loyalty and devotion characterised him, and he was generous according to his means.

The end came peacefully, and he was laid to rest in Knaresborough Cemetery on March 14th. Revs. W.R. Fallas and F.E. Thistlethwaite took part in the service; the latter also conducted a memorial service on March 22nd.
