Oliver, Martha (nee Smith) (1884-1911)
Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by J.M.
Many sorrowing friends will cherish the memory of Mrs. Oliver, of Hirst, who died on Dec. 9th, 1911, in her 27th year. A scholar un the school from childhood, she was the first convert in the Hirst School when it was used for public worship, and was an active Christian Endeavourer and Church member until the end. She encouraged the leaders of the church and school by her readiness to help and her steady, quiet and faithful support of their efforts. She had fine social sympathies, a sunny temperament and a devout spirit.
Messrs. W. H. Hughes, H. Thwaites, and Rev. W. Pickering took part in the funeral service held in our Hirst Church before the interment in Seaton Hirst Churchyard. Our deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.
