Peters, Elizabeth (nee Evans) (1841-1916)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine by J.E.P.

Elizabeth Peters was one of the oldest and most devoted members of Ewloe Society (Buckley Circuit). Born seventy-four years ago, she peacefully passed to the Better Land on Thursday, March 30th, 1916.

Mrs. Peters was a veritable “mother in Israel,” and as long as health lasted, nobly supplemented the multiform activities of her husband, Mr. Geo. Peters. For twenty years our sister was a confirmed invalid; yet despite her sufferings she murmured not, but with calmness of faith awaited the call of the Master. She was the embodiment of kindliness, and possessed “the heart at leisure from itself to soothe and sympathise.” She was also the soul of hospitality, and for over fifty years her home has been open for the messengers of the Lord, and many will retain grateful remembrance of her kindnesses. Rich in the Christian graces, Mrs. Peters was indeed “mete for the inheritance of the saints in light.”

The funeral, conducted by the Rev. James E. Phillipson, was largely attended, and was a striking testimony to the loving respect in which our friend was held. An impressive memorial service was held in the Ewloe Primitive Methodist Church on Sunday evening, April 23rd, the preacher being Councillor James Peters, J.P., a brother-in-law.
