Powell, Joseph Henry (1868-1915)

Transcription of obituary published in the Primitive Methodist Magazine

The society at Welsh End, in the Wem Circuit, has recently sustained an irreparable loss by the death of Mr. Joseph Henry Powell, on November 16th, at the early age of forty-eight. He was Sunday school superintendent, and loved the children, taking an active interest in their moral and spiritual welfare. He was also the energetic treasurer of the church. He was several times representative to the District Synod and Conference, and last year, at Reading, he preached at the great camp meeting. He was one of the ablest laymen in our circuit, and loved to exalt the crucified, risen and glorified Christ.

Impressive services were conducted by Rev. I. Ashworth at his residence and at the church, assisted by Revs. C.S. Boulton, W.R. Brotherton, W. Hull, and Mr. G.H. Holland. The memorial service on November 28th was conducted by the Circuit Minister.
