Tuddenham, Arthur (1872-1904)

Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger

MR. ARTHUR TUDDENHAM.—Aylsham Circuit has suffered a great loss in the death of our brother, Arthur Tuddenham, grandson of the late Rev. W. Kirby, some time minister of this Circuit. Mr. Tuddenham was an effective and thoughtful local preacher, of some eight years’ standing. He seldom attended the official meetings of the Circuit; but, nevertheless, he took an active interest in all its affairs. I never knew him to neglect an appointment. He gave attention to reading and to pulpit preparation, and so there was in his services a thoughtfulness and gravity far beyond his years. Being only thirty-two years of age, we thought he had not yet laid his best on the altar, that the coming years would still more deepen and ripen his thought and feeling. But while we were thinking of work, God thought of rest. On the Lord’s Day evening, June 5th, at 10 o’clock, he heard the still, small voice of his God, “It is enough,” and his great agony was stilled for ever. He died of brain fever.

JOHN GRAHAM.
