Baker, James (1805-1839)

James was born on 12 March 1905 at Hodson, nr Chiseldon, Wiltshire, to parents James and Mary. He was baptised on 8 April 1805 at Newbury Wesleyan Methodist chapel.

He was converted in 1827, but in 1828 became a backslider for about three months. he subsequently joined the Primitive Methodist Society at Chisledon and became a class leader and local preacher.

There is a particularly interesting conversation between James and a local magistrate in the presence of the local constable.

His obituary reveals that James left a widow; possibly Sarah Weston from a marriage on 6 November 1826 at Chiseldon.
