Briggs, Charles (1827-1878)

Family

Charles was born on 27 December 1827 at Whitwick, Leicestershire, to parents John, a stocking maker, and Rebecca. He was baptised on 5 February 1828 at Whitwick PM chapel.

He married Maria Austin (abt1833-1865) in early 1854 in the Woodstock Registration District, Oxfordshire. Census returns identify three children.

  • Charles Austin (abt1855-1917) – an assurance clerk (1871); died at Wellington, New Zealand
  • Tryphena Tryphosa (1857-1947) – married Thomas Saranke Eade, a shoemaker (1911), in 1881; emigrated to Canada in 1907; died in California, USA
  • Minnie Maria (1864-1929)

He married Eliza Ann Kingdon (abt1824-1902) in the spring of 1868 in the Salisbury Registration District, Wiltshire.

Charles died on 5 August 1878 at Kingswood Hill, Bitten, Gloucestershire.
