EDWIN RICHARD BURNETT: born in Blackheath on 1st August 1904, the fourth child of Rev Richard William Burnett and Rosa Elizabeth Burnett. He served in the following circuits: Pateley Bridge, Wigton, Brandon and Deerness Valley, Shildon, Redcar, Saltburn and Guisborough, Castleford (Bradley Street), Pontypool (Eastern Valley), Midsomer Norton, Radstock, Kirkby Stephen, Appleby and Tebay and Hetton. Ordained in 1931 into the Primitive Methodist Connexion after training at Hartley and probation in Southampton and Fawncett St Peter, Norfolk, Edwin married Frances Teresa Catherall.
He had wished to serve overseas but was never able to fulfil his ambition to follow his father and grandfather in that dimension of service. He pursued the work of the Lord with vigour but did not neglect his own interest in photography. His application to work was tested when he took external degrees in Arts and Divinity at London University over a 10 year period.
Upon retirement he enjoyed being a tutor for a London based college and this continued until Alzheimers Disease made him increasingly unable to cope with many aspects of life. He enjoyed his service to the church and in retirement acted as temporary minister for Wigton Congregational Church. Harwood Court Methodist Home for the Aged in Cramlington was home for the last four years of his life where he was near his family and those whom he loved. Edwin died on 23rd March 1991 in the eighty-seventh year of his age and the sixty-fourth year of his ministry.
