MINISTER’S PRISON EXPERIENCES. – The Rev. W. Barnsley, pastor of South-Front Primitive Methodist Church, who recently underwent seven days’ imprisonment for the non-payment of his education rate, amounting to 2s 9d, entered a representation of his cell erected in his chapel on Thursday evening, and gave samples of the prison diet, showed how he made up his bed, kept his cell clean and tidy, and whipped a quantity of rope. a large attendance, over whom Mr J . W. Rowland presided, were much interested. Mr Barnsley has received letters from all parts of the country, expressing sympathy with him, and, on the other hand, complimenting him on the stand he has chosen. One of the communications ran as follows: – “Allow me, a stranger, to convey my sympathy to you for the degradation you are being put to for conscience sake. I, for one, feel guilty of being an unintentional party to this Act on account of my being a strong Imperialist and a supporter of the government, who have grossly abused their power by passing this scandalous Education Bill without any mandate from the Country, but never again will the present Government receive my vote.”
