Brook, Richard (1824-1902)

Primitive Methodist Magazine 1879

Richard was born on 1 May 1824 at Littletown, Liversedge, Yorkshire. He gave himself to Christ in his 16th year at the chapel in Gomersal. After his conversion, Richard applied himself to study. He received his first class ticket in 1840, went on the plan in 1842 and entered the ministry in 1850.

Ministry

Richard’s obituary records that he was a good circuit man and all the affairs of his station prospered under his hand.

Family

Richard married Mary Peel (1826-1900) in August 1855 at Hunslet, Yorkshire. Census returns identify four children.

  • Frederick William (1858-1926) – a railway clerk
  • Arabella Louisa (1859-1915) – married William Porter, an earthenware dealer
  • Mary Hannah (b1864)
  • Richard Herbert (1866-1902) – a draper’s assistant

Richard died on 24 January 1902 at Cleckheaton, Yorkshire.
